CARING PARTNERS is a community initiative for Delaware caregivers. It was started in 2002 by a small group of volunteers employed by the Wilmington Senior Center, Newark Senior Center and the University of Delaware's School of Nursing. Concerned by the growing number of family caregivers, Caring Partners conducted research to learn about the nature of caregiver stress, needs, and resources with the generous support of the Jessie Ball duPont Fund. As a result of this work, Caring Partners developed:
- Preparing for Caring an educational program found on this site, for the many husbands and wives, brothers and sisters, and sons and daughters anticipating their new roles and challenges of giving and receiving care. Preparing for Caring was designed specifically for caregivers who are under age 60, care for their adult family members, and manage family, occupational, and financial stress with relatively few available community resources and funded programs. Throughout its two introductory sections, Caring for Your Partner and Caring for Your Parent, and six program modules the program addresses what is on the minds and in the hearts of young and middle-aged families and prepares them for safe and healthy caring partnerships. Links to selected information including resources in Delaware are provided.
- Caring Partners Coalition of Caregiving Service Providers, a collaborative effort of Delaware agencies to educate, advocate for and reach out to caregiving families. The organizations represented on the Coalition can be contacted using information on this site.
- Personalized CARING PARTNERS Support, informational, referral, and support group services available through the Caregiver Resource Centers at the Wilmington and Newark Senior Centers.
